Fandom Museum, Sunday October 26

Gregorith checked the front desk often to make sure no one needed assistance but he was spending a lot of his time down among the history exhibits.

And what a fascinating, but worrying history it was. For one thing the island seemed to have moved. While it had been stably anchored to the mainland of no particular Earth (and how did that work?) near the city of Baltimore (he knew where that was now), it had once been farther south. It had also been smaller.

But what really had Gregorith concerned was how often the island seemed to attract trouble. It wasn't surprising considering its connection to any number of possibly random universes, but the almost annual invasion by hostile forces had him on edge.

(OOC: Museum is open, Gregorith is particularly scowly though.)

Database maintenance

Good morning, afternoon, and evening!

We're doing some database and other light server maintenance this weekend (upgrading the version of MySQL we use in particular, but also probably doing some CDN work.)

I expect all of this to be pretty invisible except for some small "couple of minute" blips as we switch between machines, but there's a chance you will notice something untoward. I'll keep an eye on comments as per usual.

Cafe Fina - Saturday

It was Prompto’s birthday and this year they were able to go back to Cafe Fina after a couple of years of not being able to go there. Liz was just glad that they were able to go and celebrate, especially with the due date getting closer.

Noctra was spending the weekend with Uncle Hellboy at the BPRD since they still had limited options for babysitting with everyone still away on the school trip.

She got as comfortable as she could in the chair and looked fondly over at Prompto, “happy birthday,” she smiled, “what do you think you’re going to order?” She asked after they were handed their menus.

It's not just you, the beach has gotten big since lunchtime. It's probably fine! It means more space for the Disco Cowboy party!

...no, we're not sure that's a good thing, either.

Good morning from the Maldives! The terrible shirts and sunglasses are gone, and now everything smells like coconut. I can work with that. Let's get to the news so I can hit the beach.

Classes are, of course, on hold this week and the dorms have emptied into the beach house here, but a couple folks were still busy in town: Liz was working from her couch and Gregorith was shopping for craft supplies.

Here in paradise, Cara ignored the ridiculous market of the spa in order to get a massage, Harley and I observed the bounciness of the Jello-filled pool, Flint tried to read despite the sunglasses that wouldn't come off, and Henry was back on the beach, which is easy to do here. It's all beach. Anakin's grand plans to re-engineer a Seabob hit the reality of how much a Seabob costs, and Steph tried to talk Lexi out of her dream of riding a dolphin. Mariner was our yacht stealer for the day.

In the evening, Kitty took the sushi class, Rey and Flint decided that the White Party was not for them, and Jon stole the yacht for the night.

Voavah Island, the Maldives [Friday Daytime]

The last full day in the Maldives began without any multiverse-enforced things on anyone's body, huzzah! The spooky lighthouse had gone away with the sunrise, as well.

However, now everything smelled like coconut.

And there was something funky going on with the beach. It was longer, for a start. And the new part... was looking interesting.

Gregorith had been somewhat spoiled by a universe that provided whatever its denizens required. He'd gone from living in a condo spacious enough to house a fully functional pottery studio, to a townhouse with space that could be converted, but a kiln was another matter.

He'd pondered that on his way to finally checking out the art supply store and discovered to his relief that they not only had a kiln, but workspace that he could schedule the use of.

He was probably going to buy his own set of tools however, just to be able to use his tools.

Oh and a new sketchbook! He had one but he suddenly liked the idea of having a brand new one for Fandom. He didn't need pencils, colored or otherwise but what difference did that make?

Voavah Island, the Maldives [Thursday Evening]

The sun was setting! Could you take your sunglasses of now?

Well, yes.

But if you did, another pair reappeared in their place immediately after.

And if a minor inconvenience turning into a slightly bigger inconvenience at nightfall wasn't enough to get you in some kind of a discombobulated mood... There was also the sudden appearance of an abandoned lighthouse that was now sitting at the far end of the island.

It was Halloween season, after all!

WTFH - Fandom Radio [Thurs, October 23rd]

Yes, I don't.

Any way, over here on Break, yesterday Morning saw mostly hangovers and and overnight room changes if Henry and Belle were any indication. Jaina attempted to have breakfast, in the lounge Flint and his tiny unicorn...not touching that, explained the dangers of hangover spiders to Henry, Cal and Arden explored the beach, Steve did yoga, Sabine and Anakin rode "X-JetBladez", and Liliana was today's yacht thief.

Meanwhile, Rey and Adrian decided the solution to their clothing woes was nudity. I can't blame them for good ideas.

In the Evening, Steve watched the gummi bear rain from his villa. Which isn't even the strangest sentence I've read on one of these broadcasts. Henry and Jon attended the Glow In The Dark Beach Party, and Flint went snorkelling. I assume his tiny unicorn was still with him.

Well, the gummy bear rain had gone away again, as had the ugly Hawaiian shirts and swimwear - unless they had been someone's own genuine shirt/swimwear, in which case... Sorry about all the slander against their taste?

Anyway, yes, the ugliness was gone but apparently now the multiverse was concerned about proper eye protection, because Thursday morning saw people waking up with sunglasses they couldn't take off. Hope they were at least nice ones!

Also, unrelated, but the pool was full of Jello.

It was another lovely, balmy evening on Voavah, everyone! Go out, enjoy the beach, check o--

Oh boy.

Beach House, 2nd floor- Maldives- Wednesday morning

Rey was actually having a really great trip so far, largely because being able to get into a giant body of water without worrying about dying opened up options.

So in some ways, what she woke up in might have come in handy, aside from the fact that she was not leaving the room in it. Not that she realized that. Mostly what she was realizing when she started waking up was as that it was kind of itchy.

Voavah Island, the Maldives [Wednesday Morning/Afternoon]

'Twas yet another beautiful and exactly-right sort of day on Voavah Island. The ocean was a perfect blue, the palm trees swayed, and every. single. person. on the island woke up wearing the ugliest Hawaiian shirt (or swimwear) they could imagine.

The rooms they woke up in were also a little... weird...

Fandom Radio, Wednesday 10/22

What do you mean? I’ve been here the whole time. I’m just enjoying some solitude.

*sceptical chittering*

Hush. Notes, please.

Nothing from the school, of course because we’re here on an entirely different island from the one we live on. And nothing from the dorms because we aren’t there.

I have a little from the town. Octavia and Duke had a date night at Lucifer’s with nachos. And Remy was working at Needful Things while his cats knocked things off shelves.

Now for the trip. During the day Jon went to the spa to treat himself. Liliana joined him for drinks and a conversation about…elves? All right. And Steve enjoyed the swim-up bar at the pool.

Some people went swimming with sharks, including Anakin and Arden who were both excited. Others went snorkeling with manta rays. Rey was joined by Henry who was very unfamiliar with the activity. Harley was also there talking with Rey and distracting Henry. Adrian was taking pictures of Rey in addition to the fish. And Lydia seemed uncomfortable about the whole idea.

And then Flint borrowed a yacht.

In the evening there was a party on the yacht which was attended by Harley, Steve, Henry, and myself.

Liliana set up a watch party to look at ridiculous costumes from…everywhere? Flint was surprised and confused by all of it and that seems reasonable. Ignis was there, of course, to listen to the reactions and Liliana’s descriptions. Jon preferred this to the sharks from the night before. Lydia was enjoying the commentary more than the outfits, it seems.

I believe that’s all. No room parties that I know of, tonight. But perhaps I’ll see some of you somewhere else.

Remy did not pay nearly enough attention to the island news to know why the town was so quiet this week. He just knew that it was, and that it tended to happen a few times a year.

Just meant that there were less distractions for the cats as they trailed after him to the shop this week. He'd tried to keep them in -- but let's be real, he didn't try very hard. They seemed rather sturdy, and had always come home so far when they wandered off. And hey, it kept them entertained!

And kept Remy entertained, catching things they knocked off shelves.

A good time for everyone. If something broke . . . Remy could always steal Harley a new one for her stock. Assuming she knew enough about what she had in stock to notice.

Voavah Island, the Maldives [Tuesday Daytime]

The second day of vacation was upon all Fandomites currently in the Maldives, and what a glorious, sunny day it was!

Unless of course you preferred the great indoors, in which case what a glorious air-conditioned day in the shade it was.

Fandom Radio, Tuesday, October 21st

What up, Fandom? It's me, ya girl, Arden Finch, coming at you live from the Maldives. It is beautiful here and I'm pretty sure the only reason they're not serving sweet tea is because they knew I'd never leave, otherwise. Also, a quick shout out to Captain Rogers for covering for me last week when I was busy.

*chittering*

Captain Rogers didn't say anything because he's polite, and I'm not saying anything because you're just being nosy.

Nothing from School, Dorms, or Town - the squirrels keep jabbering on about some kind of outage, but everything looks like it's working to me? Or do y'all mean outings, aka 'what everybody did yesterday'?

During the day, the only person in the hotel was Captain Flint who woke up in the Beach House lounge and pretty much stayed there all day, reading. That's because most people were on the beach, like Rey and Dean Skywalker, who told her about snorkeling and promised extra credit to anybody in swimming class who tried it. Henry was still a bit intimidated by the open ocean, but he and Rey talked about how a bunch of planets she's been on only had one kind of biome, but how Earth had a bunch of different ones he'd be able to see because of Fandom trips. And Ms. Solo-Fel was watching her kiddos catch turtles in the water. The squirrels are making jokes about eligible bachelors but I honestly don't get it.

Other folks went kite-surfing during the afternoon, like Captain Rogers, who kept trying to convince Ms. Pryde-Barton to try it with her eyes open. Other folks opted for more low-key activities; Eleanor - hi, Ellie! - went snorkeling, and Captain Isabela somehow stole a ship for a one-woman drinking cruise and, uh, that's some straight up queen [BLEEP] right there.

In the evening, some folks, like Ms. Wren were enjoying the lobster dinner, while a bunch of other folks watched a movie night out on the beach. Doc Harley talked to Rey about hoping the movie scared folks out of the water, and Professor Sims seemed to agree with the sentiment, though Duke Skywalker thought it was a great movie choice.

And that's it for today's broadcast, so forgive me if I don't hang around. I've got a cute bathing suit to try on and a tan to perfect ~~you know, assuming the internet works tomorrow~~. Voavah Island, the Maldives [Evening]

The nice thing about this time of year in the Maldives was the weather. The less great part was that the stunning sunset happened before 6pm.

But the party didn't stop just because it got dark ~~and ping notifications weren't going through~~! It's Lobster Night tonight!
